Board-Certified Ophthalmologist · Comprehensive Eye Care & Surgery

Dr. Suhas Tuli, MD

Dr. Suhas Tuli is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgeon with over 30 years in practice, caring for patients across Burbank and the greater Los Angeles area.

She performed her first cataract operation in 1990, by the intracapsular technique — an operation few ophthalmologists practising today have ever seen done. She completed her ophthalmology residency and a cornea fellowship at the All India Institute of Medical Sciencesin New Delhi, India’s most competitive medical institute, at its 250-bed Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences — where corneal transplants were performed around the clock, whenever donor tissue became available.

Her practice spans the full range of eye care — from LASIK and small-incision, no-stitch cataract surgery to astigmatism management and corneal transplantation, including Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) and full-thickness penetrating keratoplasty (PKP). She performs a range of ocular-surface procedures, including pterygium excision, and offers both the medical and surgical management of glaucoma — with procedures such as Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) and Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). She also treats infectious and inflammatory conditions of the cornea, conjunctiva, and sclera.

She moved to the United States in 1994 and was recruited into the laboratory of Dr. Dimitri Azar, then head of refractive surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, as a research fellow in cornea and refractive surgery. It was during those years, from 1994 to 1997, that she published, wrote book chapters, and presented her work at meetings.

Then she began again. As a foreign medical graduate she sat the boards, completed an internship, and went through a full second ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University— followed by a clinical fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California. She has since served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Providence St. Joseph.

She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and is a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.

Because she practices comprehensive ophthalmology, her recommendation is never pre-decided by a single procedure. Some eyes are better served by a laser, some by a lens, and some are best left alone. The examination tells the truth, and she will tell it to you plainly.
